GAMPERL

Typical of a grand country manor, the entryway to this courtyard is planted with a variety of French lavenders to create an alluring invitation to the many pathways throughout the property. A parterre garden accessed by four entrances on a north/south axis is filled with colorful Salvias and edged in boxwood hedges. A rose garden, separated into hybrid teas and David Austin roses, doubles as a cutting garden and a fragrant poolside landscape feature. The Italian terra cotta fire pit is surrounded by a rosemary hedge to deter insects here and from the outdoor kitchen. Raised vegetable beds and a fruit orchard are conveniently nearby. “Designing a garden is a lot like designing the rooms of a house,” says Trace. “Each room is unique and serves its own purpose, but they have to feel integrated with each other.”
