CHANDLER

This design calls for integrating planting zones from the hilltop house to the tequila agave fields and avocado orchard beyond. Cultivated beds in the middle zones feature butterfly bush (Buddleia davidii), kangaroo paw (Anigozanthos spp.), Echinacea, and Echium with low water requirements, as well as cutting beds of hybrid tea roses, Alstroemeria, and lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) for year-round bouquets. The home orchard of cherimoyas, figs, and citrus adds to the ranch style. A custom outdoor entertainment area with a fountain feature is situated to enjoy spectacular coastline views. “This is the third property I’ve worked on with Trace,” says the owner. “I appreciate her design sense and her skill in choosing plants that meet our mutual vision, in this case a casual, Mediterranean-style garden brimming with pollinators to benefit the orchard.”
